Overview Rationale Staff Parents

HYS Jr. Academy is a completely volunteer program that relies heavily on its parents to lend their support in the form of coaching each season. Our staff provides every volunteer with the necessary training, continued guidance and supportive environment to become a successful coach. Soccer experience is not necessary and the time commitment is minimal.

Coaching isn't as hard as you may think. All it requires is a willingness to take an active role in your child's life and help organize a group in fun activities and games. Chances are you'll have as much, if not more, fun than the players!

If you would like to get started as a coach, please contact our Jr. Academy Director.

All registered, affiliated and CORI approved adults are required to have a Mass Youth Soccer Adult Credential. The primary purpose of the Adult Credential is for all parents of children to feel comfortable that all adults involved with their training, safety, well-being, coaching, etc. have been properly CORI checked and are in good standing (registered and affiliated, thus insured) by Mass Youth Soccer.

The first step to obtaining an Adult Credential is to register directly with Mass Youth Soccer.

Adult Registration

Please note the following:

  • You will be required to upload a headshot photo during the process.
  • Please make sure to have a photo available on the system (computer, phone, tablet, pad) you are using to register.
  • Please use your full legal first and last name (no shortened version) when completing your adult registration.
  • Please double check that you choose Haverhill Youth Soccer as your organization.

If you were required to submit a CORI Request, please print the CORI Agreement Form at the end of your CORI submission. You must have your photo ID (driver's license, state-issued ID or passport) verified and sign this form in the presence of a CORI Submitter. Volunteers will be notified when and where to complete this necessary step before the start of each season. Do not send your CORI Agreement Form to the State Office.

Credentials will be printed and available for pickup prior to the first week of each season. Initially when arriving at the fields each week coaches must have their credential worn around their neck. Then, in order not to hamper their activities (coaching, lining fields, running, etc.) they may, if necessary, store the credential with their personal belongings.

No adult may be on the field without a credential.

Concussions are a serious health concern in youth sports. HYS is committed to the safety of our players and to educating our players, parents, coaches and administrators of the dangers of concussion-related injuries. All coaches are required to review concussion information and protocols on an annual basis.

HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports is a free, online course available to coaches, parents, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion. Once you complete this less than 30-minute training and quiz, please email a copy of your certificate to the Jr. Academy Director.

All Jr. Academy coaches are required to participate in a brief clinic prior to the start of each training session. These 15-minute long sessions provide coaches with an opportunity to review that particular week's session plan, play through the designated activities/games and prepare the fields before children arrive to play. Coaches should wear comfortable clothing and footwear, bring a soccer ball with them and come prepared to have fun playing soccer.

HYS believes that the best way for children to have an enjoyable soccer experience is to have access to well-trained, enthusiastic coaches. These coaches are people who believe that fun and safety are top priorities, while winning results from skill development, learning to make good decisions on the field, and getting lots of touches on the ball. We are committed to making it as easy as possible to become a licensed coach, which is the foundation of a successful developmental soccer program.

Jr. Academy coaches should complete the National “F” course. This US Soccer license is a two-hour course, conducted entirely online, intended for all parents and coaches of youth players. The focus of this grassroots course is to share best practices in creating a fun, activity-centered and age-appropriate environment.

National F

The fee for this license is $25.00, which HYS will reimburse upon successful completion of the course. The course is structured so that you can take breaks if needed and is the initial step along the coaching education pathway. Once you complete this course, please email a copy of your receipt and license to the Jr. Academy Director.

As an added incentive for people to volunteer to coach and for retention of trained and experienced coaches, HYS offers reimbursement of registration fees for players whose parent is coaching their child's training group, have coached for two consecutive seasons and have age-appropriate training. For Jr. Academy coaches this training is defined by HYS as the US Soccer National “F” License.

If you meet the requirements outlined above and coach your child's training group, HYS will reimburse the registration fees for that season for any of your children playing in the training group that you coached for that season. All reimbursements are processed after the completion of each season.

Please contact the Jr. Academy Director with any questions about this incentive.
