Our Coaching Philosophy
HYS’s mission statement contains three key points of how we want to develop soccer players:
• Strive to develop players at all levels of play – recreational and travel – by building and improving their skills, confidence, fitness, initiative and sense of teamwork.
• Promote and encourage high standards of sportsmanship and fair play.
• A commitment to educating our volunteer coaches through sponsored instructional programs.
One of the ways in which we accomplish these is by employing the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Grassroots Play-Practice-Play methodology. It’s really as simple as it sounds and we try to make sure that our development coaches, usually our least experienced, have the support they need when coaching our young players. This fall, we hope to also host a course for some of our coaches who work with the players in grades 3-8. (More info soon to come on that!). In the meantime, here is an article for parents and coaches who want to better understand why we coach the way we do. - https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2018/02/five-things-to-know-about-playpracticeplay
